 Reduce high intake temperatures on your stock or modified 2015+ WRX with Mishimoto’s direct-fit top-mount intercooler kit. The stock top-mount intercooler is prone to heat soak during repeated wide open throttle pulls and during track use. Mishimoto engineers spent months designing and testing this new intercooler to ensure optimum performance on both the street and track. This intercooler utilizes durable cast aluminum end tanks TIG-welded to a highly efficient, dense bar-and-plate core. The Mishimoto intercooler has a 4″ thick core and a total volume of 625 in3, making it one of the largest topmount intercoolers you can buy. Thanks to this volume and a very dense offset fin pitch, Mishimoto is able to optimize heat transfer and support vehicles from stock up to 500 whp. This intercooler endured rigorous testing, showing a 35°F temperature drop as well as a +15 whp and +8 wtq bolt-on power increase for our test vehicle equipped with a Mishimoto downpipe and stage 2 EcuTek tune. Installation is simple, requires no modification to any parts in the engine bay, and can be completed in under 1 hour. Included with this intercooler is Mishimoto’s innovative charge-pipe, utilizing a one-piece construction without the need for several couplers and clamps. An application-specific air splitter is included with the intercooler to help divert the maximum amount of air into your Mishimoto intercooler. The kit also includes a new charge-pipe to intercooler hose, an intercooler to throttle body hose, and a new bypass valve hoses. These components negate the need to gather supplies for installation, and they ensure years of reliable service. This innovative new product is ideal for vehicles with upgraded fuel injectors which effect consistent fuel pressures. Details on these new fuel pulse dampers are listed below.
What is a fuel pulse damper?
A fuel pulse damper is used in fuel injection systems to attenuate pressure pulsations generated by the fuel pump and by the injectors opening and closing. These hydraulic pulses can cause an undesirable noise, which can be transmitted to the passenger compartment. These pulsations are often undetectable with a liquid-filled analog mechanical fuel pressure gauge because they happen so quickly. The fuel pulse damper works by allowing the volume of the fuel system to change slightly to absorb the pulses. This is done with a spring loaded flexible diaphragm.
Not only do the pulsations have an undesirable effect on cabin NVH (noise vibration and harshness), they can also contribute to mysterious lean spots in fuel delivery. These are often the result of the hydraulic pulses acting in harmonic resonance with the injectors opening and closing. In some vehicles, these lean spots can result in stumbling during acceleration.
How do Radium Engineering fuel pulse dampers improve fuel delivery?
Most boosted engines use a pressure referenced regulator where fuel pressure rises 1:1 as boost pressure rises. If the damper is tuned from the factory for a specific single fuel pressure, then it becomes ineffective as fuel pressure rises outside of the normal range. To address this issue, Radium has designed the first aftermarket vacuum referenced fuel pulse damper. Radium Engineering Fuel Pulse Dampers are CNC machined from aluminum, anodized, and laser engraved. They are resistant to all fuel types including alcohol blends such as E85. This new FPD design maintains full damping function throughout the range of pressures seen in the fuel system of a boosted engine with a 1:1 vacuum referenced regulator.
Direct Mount Fuel Pulse Dampers
Radium Engineering offers two designs of their direct mount fuel pulse dampers. The FPD-R (green top) is slightly shorter than the FPD-XR (black top) allowing it to be used in space-constrained applications.
FPD-R base pressure requirement = 40 – 45psi (static)
FPD-XR base pressure requirement = 43 – 78psi (static)
